Winter in Rosedale Abbey is a Special Time of Year

Because of the altitude of the North York Moors, and their North-East position on our Island home, the high moors around Rosedale Abbey are statistically more likely to recieve winter snowfall that just about anywhere else in England.

Every year the village in Rosedale will likely be cut off from the outside World for a few days by deep snowfall (which is nice).

And winter snowfall offers outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to get outside in the cold fresh-air for any number of passtimes.

Cycling in snow

Mountain Biking takes on an extra dimension in the snow.

Sledging with kids is one fun activity that is always popular with the young and young at heart.

Mountain biking on some of our cycle trails in Rosedale takes on added dimension during times of snow.

And of course the old, disused iron ore railway that runs around the top of Rosedale valley becomes a popular spot for folks wanting to practice their cross country skiing.

But whatever winter outdoor pursuit is chosen, returning to the warm and cosy haven at Rosella Cottage at the end of a cold day outside is always a highlight of any winter holiday in the North York Moors.
