The Abbey Trail is a long-distance walking trail in Yorkshire which  links the ancient priory found in the village of Rosedale Abbey to six other of our historic Abbey’s.

These being found at Kirkstall, Fountains, Byland, Rievaulx, Lastingham, and Whitby.

Rievaulx Abbey - Tracey Phillips

Rievaulx Abbey by Tracey Phillips.

The walk is a great long distance pilgrimage with an ecclesiastical and historical theme.

The Abbey Trail takes in 120 miles (190 kms) of the loveliest North Yorkshire moorland and coastal scenery.

The walk  can be done "end-to-end" in one go; but it is best undertaken as a series of eight single day walks - using Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey as a base for the Northern sections from Whitby to Thirsk.
