So tourists who wish to enjoy a taste of England's best destination need look no further than the Moors, Yorkshire Heritage Coast, and Howardian Hills for a great holiday.
Our village - Rosedale Abbey - set in a deep valley in the heart of the North York Moors National Park; and with ready access to all points of the compass makes an ideal base for exploring the North York Moors or the wider County of Yorkshire.
Rosedale is a Mecca for holidaymakers wanting fresh air, nature, great scenery, good walking, cycling, and great pubs!
Spring and Summer are the best months for a visit to the North York Moors.
In April and May, you'll see lots of new-born lambs on the Moors; and our wild Daffodils are in bloom in Rosedale and Farndale.
They make quite a sight!
June and July are the best summer months to visit if you want to take advantage of the quieter period before the English school holidays begin.
The days are long and often bright and warm; but there usualy aren't many tourists around making for an extra-relaxing time as you tootle around the area by foot, bike or car.
Yorkshire Has Magnificent Scenery at Every Turn.
August is "high-season" when the majestic purple heather comes into full bloom. The North York Moors are the largest area of unbroken moorland in England and the heather in bloom will take your breath away!
We can often get an "Indian Summer" in September and October - a period of nice weather before the British Summer Time ends on the last weekend in October.
The Moors will be quieter again in this period of early Autumn; with the kids back at school.
It's an ideal time to visit!
Winter on the Moors is worth considering if you like peace and quiet. The hills take on a brooding appearance and the area settles into a very peaceful vibe.
Sometimes you'll feel like the last people on Planet Earth as visitor numbers drop away.
But Christmas and New Year are usually very busy with lots of people taking advantage of the holiday period to come to the Moors for a break.
Winter is A Great Time to Feel the Peace of the Moors.
We're a leisurely 4-5 hour drive from London; and around 3 hours by train to York; with another hour by car to get here.
Closer airports for direct entry to the North of England include Durham-Teeside (under an hour by car); Leeds-Bradford (just over an hour by car); and Manchester (around 2-hours by car).
Cars can be hired from all local airports; and from York train station as well.
Cycling Holidays are Particularly Popular on the North York Moors.
We have a moderate climate in comparison to Northern Europe, Scandinavia or North America.
Summers tend to be cooler than Europeans may be used to; with temperatures rarely exceeding 25C.
The Weather is Changeable; But Summer Days are Long.
Winters on the Moors can be colder than in other parts of England; with snow and frost being fairly common during cold-snaps.
But our winter's are certainly not as cold as those of the the Northern States in the US, Canada, or Northern Europe.
Rain can occur in any season; but we still have plenty of local indoor activities for when the weather is un-cooperative!
We recommend that you purchase appropriate travel insurance to cover you in emergency situations.
A valid passport is required for entry to the UK.
