Luxury Holiday for Walkers & Cyclists

Rosedale, set in the higher part of the North York Moors National Park was an important centre for ironstone mining into the 1920s.

But there is no mining in the peaceful valley today.

Although the mines are closed; there is plenty of interesting evidence of the industrial archaeology remaining around the valley sides.

And another benefit of the old mine workings for walkers and cyclists is the now a disused railway route circling the entire valley above Rosedale Abbey.

Walkers and cyclists are able to take advantage of the old track.

You'll also have great views across the valley and across the North York Moors from the higher exposed parts of the rail track.

On a clear day, York Minster and the cooling towers of Drax power stations become visible some 50-odd miles away.

The walk starts on the doorstep of Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale Abbey.

Refreshments are available in Rosedale Abbey at one of two pubs and tea rooms.

There is also the Lion Inn at Blakey which is part way round the walk.

Dale Head Farm half way round the walk also serves teas etc.
