If you're looking for some peace and quiet; then the North York Moors in Autumn and Winter is the place to head for a weekend stay.
Unlike the other National Parks of the North - the English Lakes District in Cumbria, or the Yorkshire Dales NP, the North York Moors progress at a much slower pace.
Enjoy the Solitude and Quiet on the North York Moors.
Even at the height of summer, when the other Parks are brimming-full with tourists and day-trippers, our region remains much quieter and less visited.
Which is a good thing in our book!
But in Autumn and Winter, you'll really feel like you have the Moors to yourself.
Which is another good thing!
Be warned - if you're visiting from any of Britain's bustling cities, the quiet you'll experience on the North York Moors can actually take some time for your hearing to adjust to.
Even in a village setting like Rosedale Abbey, the quietness as you leave any of the three village pubs at closing time can be disconcerting.
Rosedale Abbey in Autumn Offers True Peace and Quiet.
For a few moments, you might even imagine you've gone deaf.
But there are some truely remarkable quiet places on the Moors that you must visit.
Here are my favourite recommendations to allow for some stillness.
St Hilda's Church and its beautufl rural churchyard is one of the most isolated little Church's on the Moors.
It is just so beautifully quiet inside; even on a windy day.
St Hilda's Church Sits in a Peaceful Spot in Danbydale.
It can be crowded in summertime; but in Autumn or Winter, you may well have the run of this long-ruined ancient Abbey to yourself.
And being set in a deep, steep-sided wooded valley, the only noise you're likely to hear is the odd sheep and the rustling trees.
Ruined Rievaulx Abbey is One of the Gem's of Yorkshire.
A round-trip walk across the high-moor from Rosedale's Banktop to the village of Lastingham takes you away from any road noise or other man-made sounds.
If it's a still day when you visit, all you'll hear are the birds, sheep, and your own thoughts.
Fantastic!
