Reward for Information on Hawk Killing

Wildlife and the natural environment are essential parts of the North York Moors that we love; and that the majority of visitors to Rosedale Abbey also love.

So it is truely dissapointing to hear that local Police are investigating the shooting of four Buzzards in Ryedale in the previous four months.

The latest fatal shooting was of a female buzzard, which was found in Farndale.

In 2011 the RSPB named North Yorkshire as the UK’s worst black spot for crimes against birds of prey, saying there were more incidents recorded in the region than in Scotland, Wales and all of England’s southern counties combined in 2010.

We believe this situation is a discrace which must be stopped.

Species being shot including goshawks, red kites, hen harrier and peregrine falcons.

So if you are out walking or cycling on the North York  Moors this Month and find evidence of dead raptors, please contact PC Stewart Ashton at North Yorkshire Police or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The RSPB has put up a £1000 Reward for information leading to the conviction of raptor killers in North Yorkshire.
