So Much to do in Rosedale Abbey

We're just finishing a two week summer holiday at Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey.

One thing that always astounds us - as parents of young children - is just how much there is to do on any holiday to the North York Moors.

In fact, we only ever finish-up doing half the things we've planned!

This trip, we've enjoyed a fabulous day-out to Rievaulx Abbey - where our girls loved the historical music theme on offer by English Heritage.

Rievaulx music

Medievil Musicians at Rievaulx Abbey were Fantastic.

We've also enjoyed a full day out in York with a visit to Clifford's Tower, York Minster, shopping for clothes and a lazy lunch at the the Lowther on the banks of the River Ouse; and all on a bright sunny day!

A highlight as been a couple of trips over the Moors to Whitby.

We've walked on the beach; enjoyed a paddle; climbed the 199 steps to St Mary's Churchyard and taken a lovely stroll around the historic Abbey.

Oh, and of course we've enjoyed fresh Whitby haddock 'n' chips at Haddley's fine restaurant near the swing bridge.

Closer to home; no holiday in Rosedale Abbey would be complete without at least one good walk.

Pink sheep 2

We've All Had Fun Taking Part in the Lost Pink Sheep Competition.

This time round we've managed three or four walks of a couple of hours duration.

We've walked to the Lion Inn  for lunch along the old cinder-bed railway; we've climbed Chimney Bank and visited Aine Howe Cross; and we've walked to the Blacksmiths Inn at Hartoft.

Other highlights have included trips out to Helmsley, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Pickering Castle, and the Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole.

It's been fantastic fun!
