Which? magazine asked its members to recommend their favourite towns, attractions and routes in North Yorkshire.

And it is perhaps no surprise that the picture-postcard town of Whitby on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast was recommended as the top North Yorkshire destination for a day visit in the survey of Which? members.

Whitby is a Short Drive Across the North York Moors from Rosella Cottage.

In addition, almost half of members who recommended a scenic route suggested travelling on a steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) from Pickering to Whitby.

And the North York Moors National Park that surrounds Rosedale Abbey was the most frequently recommended favourite destination for a walking holiday.
