Bilsdale - Mike Nicholas

Great Moorland Scenery as you Explore the North York Moors.

There's really not much to beat a gentle drive across the high plateau of the North York Moors, dropping down into any of our remarkable local dales, and coming to a stop at a local pub in a pretty village.

Listed below are a few firm favourites that come highly recommended; and all are just a short drive from Rosella Cottage.

Rosedale Abbey

Three fine pubs - the Coach House Inn, White Horse Farm Inn and newly re-opened Milburn Arms Hotel.

Just a couple of miles away doiwn the dale you'll also find the Blacksmiths Arms at Hartoft.

Castleton

Here you'll find the Downe Arms opposite the crossroads in the upper part of the village and the Eskdale Hotel down in the valley by the River Esk and railway station.

Downe Arms DanbyDale

The View from the Downe Arms' Beer Garden.

Danby and Ainthorpe

You can discover another couple of nice pubs here; being the Duke of Wellington at the crossroads in Danby; and the Fox and Hounds on the way out of the village at Ainthorpe.

Both are worth a visit if you're going to the Moors National Park Visitor Centre which is just outside Danby.

Farndale

Only one pub here in this most rural of valley's; the Feversham Arms has been a firm favourite with visitors to the moors for decades.

Appleton-le-Moors

Home to the fine Moors Inn. Serves a great Sunday dinner and well worth a visit.

Lealholm

Try the Board Inn. It's right next to the River Esk and popular for meals.

Egton

One of the bigger moorland villages.

You'll find four pubs here; two Horsehoe Inns', the Wheatsheaf, and the Postgate.
