Remember Scarborough

Today is your final chance to take in the "Remember Scarborough" exhibition that commemorates the bombardment of Scarborough by the German Navy in December 1914.

On December 16th 1914, German warships approachd the North Yorkshire coast and fired hundreds of shells on Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool.

In the three towns, hundreds of civilians were killed or injured; and many buildings and homes were destroyed.

This raid on the seaside towns caused great public outcry and 'Remember Scarborough!' became the battle cry for an impassioned recruitment drive for troops in WWI.
