The magnificent garden terrace at Rievaulx, outside Helmsley, is one of North Yorkshire's finest 18th-century landscaped gardens.

The terrace is one of the true gems of the North York Moors.

As you stroll through the woods and out on to the terrace, the stunning views down over the Cistercian ruin of Rievaulx Abbey will take your breath away.

And in springtime, the bank between the two temples is awash with wild flowers.

Summertime is perfect for picnicing on the lovely lawns.

And in autumn, the beech woods are a mass of beutiful rustic colour.

Rievaulx Terrace is just above Rievaulx Abbey and both sites can be visited in one day.

The lovely town of Helmsley is also near-by with its interesting market square and shops and galleries; and the old castle.
