Jorvik Viking Festival

Taking place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2014, in the Coppergate Square in York is the 2014 Jorvik Viking Festival.

It's a free festival featuring over 80 evetns and you can get to meet the Vikings and learn about their life at sea and and how they lived in York over 1,000 years ago in the Viking encampment.

There'll also be a Viking longship kitted out for war on display.

And visit the Norse story-telling tent to hear tales and ancient Viking myths and legends.

You can even visit the Viking "healer" and let the cunning woman prescribe her cures for your aches, pains and war wounds!

Storytelling starts at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.

Plus, don’t miss the battle skirmishes between the Coppergate Vikings and their arch-rivals the Anglo-Saxons at the Eye of York at 12-noon and 2pm daily.

+  Anglo-Saxon Encampment;

+  Festival Folk Music with Ray Cooper;

+  The Viking Landscape in Yorkshire;

+  Gareth Williams of the British Museum, Lecture on the symbolic role of the ship in Viking society.
