Many walkers might hibernate in winter.
But it's not impossible to keep walking for fitness and pleasure during the colder months.
Walking Can be Daunting in Winter, But Worth the Effort.
So here are some tips on how to keep walking in colder weather.
With the cold weather, it's easy to just pull up the duvet rather than facing the chill outside.
But you’ll soon get warm with a brisk walk; so jump to it, and get going!
And walking outdoors is much less monotonous than pounding away in the Gym.
Better still, you can also arrange a scenic walk to give your mood a positive boost during the shorter days of Winter.
Pick a Hilly, Scenic Route to Keep Your Interest.
Another benefit of walking in Winter is the possibility of involving interval training during the walk.
Pick a hilly route and try a little jog up the hills to get the lungs working; then walk down the slopes to catch your breath.
Plan your route and make sure to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Layering cloths is the best way to insulate your body; and you can put-on and take-off as you go.
Remember the adage, “There’s no such thing as bad weather – just the wrong clothing"!
Another tip that helps in the cold is to make sure you're warm before going outside.
I find a hot drink before heading outdoors is always a winner - soup is my favourite in Winter.
And I aim to walk around mid-day when the available light is at its brightest.
