This year's Rosedale Walking Festival takes place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June 2014.

The annual Festival celebrates Rosedale's "Walkers are Welcome" status.

Aine How Cross Rosedale

Walkers are Welcome in Rosedale Abbey.

And it offers walkers the opportunity to participate in half-a-dozen interesting hikes which highlight why Rosedale on the North York Moors is such a great place for a walking day-out, weekend, or longer vacation.

A highlight on Saturday 14th June will be the "Pilgrims Walk" which celebrates the ecclisiastical history of Rosedale Abbey and the Monks and Nunns who walked our ancient and historic paths all those centuries ago.

Monks Trod Glaisedale

Monks Trods Are a Distinctive Feature of the North York Moors.

The Pilgrims Walk, starts-off (and finishes) at the Ebeneezer Methodist Chapel (Rosedale East) at 1.30pm.

The Chapel is about 2-miles up the valley from Rosella Cottage here in the village of Rosedale Abbey.

The planned walk crosses a varied terrain taking in some of the ancient and well worn trods and local landscape features which are the heart of local folklore and legend.

Led by Rosedale local - Edward Harpin - of The Orange Tree health spa and retreat, the walk is approx. 8.5 miles and will take about 4 hours.

As with all walks in the Festival, the route and timeframe are subject to weather and walking conditions on the day.

The planned walk goes uphill onto the high moors above Loose Howe so stout walking boots and good wet-weather gear are recommended as the terrain is mixed.

A bottle of water and snacks are also advised.

The Pilgrims Walk then passes by the old crosses on the Moors.

Walkers will learn some more of the stories surrounding their placement.

Moorland Trod

Moorland Trods Criss-cross the High Moors Around Rosedale Abbey.

Allowing for time, it is planned to stop-off at the Lion Inn - Yorkshire's remotest Inn - high-up on Blakey Ridge.

You'll then follow the ley line down Blakey Rigg and Edward will offer an exploration of some more of the folk tales of the area.

Accompanied children over 11 years and dogs on leads welcome.

The cost of the walk is £4 per adult.

Children 11-17 walk for free.

To reserve a spot on the walk and ticketing, telephone the Festival Ticket Hot-line on 01751 417505.
