Our Favourite Seafood Restaurants

The area of North Yorkshire around Rosedale Abbey is home to some of the finest restaurants and eateries in England.

In fact, Yorkshire has more fine-dining restaurants with Michelin-stars than anywhere else in the country outside of London. 

And being so close to the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, it's not surprising that we have some of the finest fresh seafood you'll find anywhere. 

We have a Coastal Fishing Tradition Stretching Back at Least 1,000 Years.

With that in mind, today we're featuring some of our favourite seafood restaurants that are within an easy drive of Rosella Cottage.

First on our list is the marvelous White Horse and Griffin in Whitby's "Old Town" below the Abbey.

You'll find the White Horse and Griffin on Church Street almost opposite the Market Square on the way to the bottom of 99 Steps.

Keep a sharp-eye out since the small "shopfront" On Church Street means it is easy to walk past and not notice the restaurant on a first pass.

But the candle-lit traditional interior and lovely menu with a seafood focus make it the perfect venue for a romantic couple on holiday to Rosella Cottage.

They also do a great breakfast if you're going to visit Whitby for an early start.

We Think that Whity has the Finest Fresh Seafood on Offer in Britain.

Also in Whitby is "Greens of Whitby" which has been a firm seafood favourite with our family since opening in the town.

Greens is a highly acclaimed seafood bistro and restaurant on Bridge Street in the heart of Whitby.

We reckon that Greens would give any high-quality London eatery a good run for its money; and it was shortlisted for the Seafood Restaurant of the Year in 2009.

To the North of Whitby, along the coast road (A174 towards Saltburn) are a number of other great North Yorkshire seafood restaurants.

The first port of call at Sandsend is Estbek House just four-miles from Whitby.

Estbek House is an award winning restaurant set in a stylish Georgian building close to the seafront. 

We love everything about this restaurant.

It has a charming bar to enjoy a glass of Champers or a G and T.

It has a snug dining room with a comprehensive wine list; and there is always attentive service.

And to top it all, the food is lovely with a focus  - as you'd expect - on fine local seafood.

Just a little further North along the A174, you'll run into the Fox and Hounds at Goldsborough.

This gastro pub is hidden away in the countryside overlooking the sea close to Runswick Bay.

Check the map or GPS because Goldsborough is small and all too easy to miss. 

Although the newly refurbished restaurant hasn't been open long, the menu is top notch, with local organic produce lovingly crafted into super dishes.

Lastly, and a little further along the A174 you'll come to "The Endeavour" tucked away off the beaten track in the picturesque fishing village of Staithes.

The Endeavour is a curious and wonderful seafood restaurant.

But don't just take our word for it: the Sunday Times recently declared the Endeavour to be in the top three seafood restaurants in the UK.
