How Bad Can it Be?

We can't always make our holidays in Rosedale Abbey.

So we often holiday in other places and choose other self-catering cottages.

We've just had the misfortune to experience our own self-catering holiday nightmare over Easter.

It got me to wondering about what makes a great self-catering holiday home?

Here's what we found on our recent five night stay.

Note, the cottage was actually so bad we left after four nights because we simply couldn't stand it any more.

+ Acottage advertised as sleeping six, but with only one egg cup;

+ A clothes line with only ten pags;

+ A 25-year old cottage that appeared to have recieved no maintenance in all that time;

+ Vinyl cork floor tiles which were dirty, worn out, and in desperate need of replacement;

+ Fly screens missing or torn;

+ Filthy windows that had not been cleaned in a very long time;

+ Poo in the toilet from the previous guests when we arrived;

+ An infestation of ants in the childrens bedroom;

+ A mixture of ill chosen furniture of various ages, designs and styles;

+ No artwork on any walls, giving an unwelcome and unloved appearance; and

+ A whole day without electricity or water available (740am - 4pm).
