Five Ideas for the Easter Holidays

Yorkshire Folk aren't really tight with our money - but we do love getting "something for nothing".

We call it "somert for nowt" on the North York Moors.

So today I've come up with a list of five completely free but special activities which can be enjoyed when holidaying in North Yorkshire.

 Walkers on Mineral Railway

Try a Hike on the Rosedale Mineral Railway - A 10-Mile Path Around Rosedale.

Here they are...

1. Take the lovely drive across the high North York Moors and down into Whitby via the Esk River villages of Castleton, Danby, Lealholme, Glaisedale and Egton. It'll cost only your petrol money - but if you go by bicycle it'll be completely free. Each village is unique and with pubs, cafes, interesting churches, and other historic sights.

2. Take a walk up the famous steps to visit Whitby Abbey - and make sure to count if there actually 199 steps up and down. When you reach the top, the marvelous view over the historic old seaport and Yorkshire Heritage Coastline is simply pricess.

The Seaside at Whitby is just 30-minutes by Car from Rosedale  Abbey.

3. Hike the ten-miles around the old ironstone hauling railway cinder track in upper Rosedale. The walking path starts from our front door here in Rosedale Abbey and is an easy day walk on a mostly level gradient around the valley.

4. Take the kids rock-pooling at Staithes, Runswick Bay or Robin Hood's Bay on the Yorkshire Heritage Coastline. They'll love it and you'll be surprised what the tide turns up.

5. If cycling is your thing, why not take the challenge of riding your bike up Chimney Bank in Rosedale Abbey? It's the steepest public road in all of England and quite an achievment to conquer "the chain breaker".  Not even the Tour de France dared include this hill in the 2014 race in Yorkshire.

Bonus Activity

Why not just laze about in the comfortable king-size bed in Rosella Cottage? Have a relaxing lie-in, read a good book, or stay cozy with your best friend!
