The North York Moors National Park is one vast, picturesque playground; and a Mecca for walking, cycling, history, and sight-seeing holidays.

But if you've only got time for a quick weekend visit to the Moors around Rosedale; let me introduce some unmissable experiences to fill your weekend with fun.

And Rosella Cottage in the pretty village of Rosedale Abbey is ideally placed for your accommodation needs; being right in the heart of this majestic and mysterious landscape.

North York Moors Railway

Enjoy the quaint, traditional, wood-panelled carriages and steam engines that puff along the line that cuts through the heart of the Moors from Pickering to Grosmont; and onwards to Whitby during the Summer season.

It’s an ideal way to take in the sense of the North York Moors.

The closest station to Rosella Cottage is in Pickering, just ten miles away (postcode = YO18 7AJ).

Mountain Biking on the Moors

Rosedale is the perfect spot to indulge in some mountain biking; and there are several really good routes to take in.

Probably the best is the old cinder-track railway line which runs a circle around the upper reaches of the valley above the village of Rosedale Abbey.

There are tracks that cater for beginners as well as pro’s, with several trails heading off from the village itself (postcode = YO18 8RA).

Visit Robin Hood’s Bay

A real Yorkshire gem.

Perched precariously on steep cliffs overlooking the North Sea; Robin Hood’s Bay has a "film-set" perfection for Pirates, smugglers, and all things maritime.

Once you’ve strolled down hill into the village at the base of the cliffs, you'll find rock pools to be explored and fossils to find on the beach.

There’s also the Robin Hood’s Bay Museum which is well worth a visit.

Go Ape

Dalby Forest is famous for two things: Mountain biking and "Go-Ape".

Go-Ape offer a ‘Tree Top Adventure’ with a mix of obstacles, including tree crossings and a zip wire that should get the heart pounding.

Best Pubs

After all your adventure's on the North York Moors; you'll be needing to put your feet up in a traditional Country Pub, and have a pint or two and some lunch or dinner.

There are just so many great pubs and historic Inns to choose from that picking a couple of favourites is nearly impossible.

But right here in Rosedale you've got the White Horse Farm Inn, the Coach House Inn and the Blacksmiths Arms at Hartoft.

Just a little further away is the fabulous Moors Inn at Appleton-le-Moors.

All are highly recommended, and the White Horse and Moors Inn both do top-notch country cooking.
