Visitors come to Rosedale Abbey for many reasons.
And one pastime which may appeal is the ability to get close to nature and see our lovely English wildlife in its natural habitat on the North York Moors.
Any early morning walk, cycle or drive is likely to result in spotting a few of our local native creatures.
So what might you see when you visit Rosella Cottage?
Rosedale and the North York Moors that surround us have most of the larger native and introduced mammals.
You may find Roe Deer and Fallow Deer.
Badgers and red fox are very common and often seen.
You may also spot the smaller mammals like squirrel, hedgehog, bats, stoat, otter and mink.
Birdlife is abundent with a seasonal mix of "locals" and visitors dropping in with the tourists in Spring and Summer.
We have hawks, owls, kingfisher, dippers, tits, and all the usual hedge-back warblers and woodland species. Too many to name them all.
Rosedale and the Moors beyond are also home to a variety or cold-blooded critters and amphibians.
You'll find Adders, Grass Snake and Slow-worm. You'll also come across plenty of frogs and toads. And there are a few Newts.
And then there are the insects, Moths and Butterflies. All lovely in their own way.
So get outdoors and enjoy all that we have to offer.
