Exhibits and Workshops Near Rosedale

Late May and June are fantastic months to be visiting the North York Moors around Rosedale and the near-by Yorkshire Heritage Coast.

And holidaymakers lucky enough to be visiting Rosedale Abbey just now can take in some great art exhibitions or sign-up for some exciting "hands-on" art workshops in a variety of media.

Listed below are just a few events taking place as part of the North Yorkshire Open Studios Initiative.

 

The Butterfly Effect

To be found at Gallery 1, "Inspired by…" Gallery at the the North York Moors National Park Centre in Danby (sat nav = YO21 2NB).

From 18th May to 17th June 2013, this solo show of recent paintings and drawings by Jean Harlow is lovely. Admission is free.

The exhibit also features "The Butterfly House" - a public artwork composite of over 600 individually crafted butterflies created by local school children and members of the public.

A free butterfly treasure hunt event will be happening around the North York Moors National Park Centre in Danby on Sun 9th June from 12 to 3.30 pm.

 

A Matter of Life and Death

Visit St Stephen's Church in Fylingdales (sat nav = YO22 4PN) from June 1st to 31st August for an exhibition of batik wax-resist textiles by North Yorkshire Open Studio artist Heather Gatt, celebrating the birth, life, death cycle.

Open daily 10.30am–5.30pm and admission is free.

 

Makers Market

Rural Arts at the Courthouse in Thirsk (sat nav = YO7 1QS) provides a unique opportunity to meet the makers and buy jewellery, ceramics, prints and textiles direct from the artists.

The event is taking place on Saturday & Sunday 8th and 9th June from 10am–4.30pm. And admission is also free again!


Minature Paper Shoes Workshop

Taking place at Helmsley Art Centre (sat nav = YO62 5DW) on Sunday 2nd June from 10.30am–3pm.

Serena Partridge will demonstrate how to create miniature shoes using a variety of papers and embellishments and make perfect little gifts for special occasions and followers of fashion.

Suitable for all abilities, with patterns supplied in a wide range of sizes to suit everyone.

All materials will be provided but you may wish to bring along your own special papers, trims, fine scissors, needles, threads and a camera.

Leaded Glass Workshop

Skilled glass artisan Alan Davis will lead this full day glass workshop where you will learn basic glass cutting and leading techniques, leading a panel from design to finish.

The workshop takes place at High Farm, 21 Wades Lane, East Barnby, Whitby YO21 3SB.

It's on Saturday 1st Jun from 10am – 4pm.
