Autocar Pure Driving Experience on the North York Moors

In November 2013, Autocar Magazine and Dunlop Tyres got together to film a pure driving experience video on the North York Moors.

You can watch the You Tube clip here.

Driving the Casteton Moor Road to Lockwood Beck with the North Sea in the Distance 10-miles Away. How's that for a View?

In this You short 3-minute video, Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe drives a Radical RXC across the Blakey Moor Road between Hutton-le-Hole and the Rosedale Abbey turn-off at Ralph's Cross.

Now I'd never advocate driving recklessly on our local moorland roads; especially at this time of year with the new-born Spring-lambs just starting to make an appearance on the Moors.

But for me, the video captures one of the fantastic highlights of any holiday drive across the high North York Moors - the sense of splendid isolation - that comes from having so little traffic on our majestic upland Moors.

The North York Moors Provide a Sense of Splendid Isolation.

It's really amazing that Dunlop and Autocar managed to spend all day making this short film on a public highway on the North York Moors; but they didn't even need the Cops to close the Blakey Road above Rosedale.

That's because, even in high-season from June to September, our local roads are not chock-full of dawdling motorists; unlike the nightmare highways of the holiday honey-pots in the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District.

And in Spring an Autumn, it is easy to drive for 15-miles or more around Rosedale Abbey and not pass another vehicle.

Winter offers even better driving opportunities - but the roads can be icy - so take care.

During any drive on the North York Moors you'll rediscover the simple pleasure of driving - no fuss, no stress, great views in all direction, sun-roof open, wind in your hair, and favourite soundtrack at full volume on the I-player!

Now that's what I call fun!

But watch out and take care around our little lambs and thier Mums!
