Our aim at Rosella Cottage is to provide a luxury holiday cottage in the North York Moors that provides an economic return to us - the owners - but also allows us to promote the sustainable developement of Rosedale Abbey and the North York Moors around here that we so love.

For us, part of the economic return from cottage bookings is ploughed back into our website which we then use to promote Rosedale and our region to as a wide a tourist audience as possible.

And one thing we love to promote are sustainable businesses in the region which are creating jobs; helping young people stay in the region; providing a much needed service to visitors and locals alike; and looking after the land at the same time.

Cedarbarn just outside Pickering; and just a few miles from Rosella Cottage is one such fabulous sustainable business.

Cedarbarn has a very simple purpose; to offer buyers top-quality, healthy, fresh food with impeccable provenance and as few food miles as possible.

Husband and wife team Karl and Mandy Avison, and other members of the Avison family own and run the Cedarbarn shop, cafe, butchery and gallery where you'll find they're passionate about growing, cooking and offering fabulous food!

The Avison's love farming and also care deeply about the local environment.

For those reasons, the Avison's award-winning farm shop and café sell locally sourced produce that tastes great; with much of it grown on our own farm right here in beautiful North Yorkshire.

And the Avison family has been farming in Thornton le Dale for over 100 years.

Cedarbarn is very easy to find - they're just outside Pickering, on the A170 road to Scarborough and before you reach the Thornton le Dale turn-off.
