The Cedarbarn Cafe

The award-winning café at Cedarbarn near Pickering is certainly popular with locals and visitors to North Yorkshire alike.

The café  is cosy with room to sit and relax inside; or in the beautifully landscaped outdoor herb garden.  And there are lovely views across the surrounding countryside.

The café menu and daily specials reflect the seasonal growing patterns on local farms.

And a highlight is the café's famous Sunday lunch!

Cedarbarn Café is just the other side of Pickering, on the A170 road to Scarborough (sat nav postcode = YO18 7JX).  Telephone 01751 475614 for further bookings or further information.

The fish is super fresh and locally sourced and fried in a secret batter recipe.  The fishcakes are home-made as are the mushy peas.  The chips are also double fried using a 17 millimetre thick chip.

The Duke, Danby

The menu at the Duke of Wellington reflects an emphasis on home-made traditional British food with most of the meat, fish and vegetables being purchased from local producers.

At the bar you’ll find at least three cask-conditioned ales and a local guest beer.  There is also an interesting selection of wines and a good range of single malts.

Telephone 01287 660351 for bookings.

Feversham Arms, Farndale

You’ll find the Feversham Arms Inn at Church Houses in Farndale is just a short drive from Rosedale Abbey.

Our own family has been going for meals at the Feversham for over 50 years with many anniversary and birthday “do’s” there when it was run by our Aunty and Uncle back in the 1970’s.

It’s still a great place for a meal and a great location as well.  For bookings, telephone Rachel or Richard on 01751 433206.

Star Inn, Harome

The Star is North Yorkshire’s Michelin Starred Restaurant for 2010 and the Egon Ronay Gastropub of the Year for 2006.  It’s also won many coveted awards.  This beautiful old thatched pub has so much character.

There is nothing nicer than a long lunch with a Star ploughman's lunch.  For bookings, telephone 01439 770 397.

Haddley's, Whitby

For the real McCoy in Whitby fish ‘n’ chips, we recommend Haddley’s on the corner of Church Street and just over the swing bridge on the old East Side of town.

They’re our favourite traditional fish ‘n’ chip cafe in Whitby serving both Whitby Cod and Whitby Haddock.  Go for the “Jumbo” Haddock which is just a real treat with chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and cup of tea.  What could be better?
