The scenic drive between Whitby and Rosedale is always a highlight of a trip to this part of the World. You could call into the Moors Centre at Danby on the way. Travel back via Sleights and Pickering to take in the scenery over the Hole of Horcum. You could even make a detour into the village of Goathland; better known as “Aidensfield” in the Heartbeat TV series. You’ll certainly be ready for bed.

No trip to this region would be complete without getting some exercise by way of a good walk or a cycle ride. There are so many choices, depending on your fitness level. Aim to take a walk or ride that takes you past the Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge and make sure to call in for lunch. A good nap in the afternoon on Sunday is always our favourite time of week – especially after a Yorkshire Sunday lunch with all the trimmings!
Leaving after your short break, a day trip to York is always a great way to end a long weekend. There is so much to do and see in York, you’ll just love it!

If you’re here for a long weekend over four days, why not plan your visit to take advantage of the fantastic Captain Cook Country Tour? You’ll get to see a number of fantastic museums recording Captain Cook’s life in Yorkshire and his travels to far-flung lands. You’ll also get to visit a number of our local historical towns and villages; including Great Ayton, Guisborough, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Staithes, Sandsend and Whitby. It’s a beautiful and scenic tour around the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and can be completed comfortably in sections over 2-3 days. There are plenty of side-tours and opportunities for walks along the way.
