A Day Out to Robin Hood's Bay

Robin Hood's Bay is a pretty village that clings to the cliffs where the North York Moors meet the Ocean.

The village lies in the centre of the Yorkshire Heritage Coastline between Whitby and Scarborough.

Robin Hood’s Bay is one of our family-favourite days out whenever we stay at Rosella Cottage in Rosedale.

And it certainly has a lot going for it!

Firstly, make sure to enjoy the view from the top of the village before wandering down the winding lanes to the beachfront at the bottom.

The view across Robin Hood’s Bay is simply stunning.

Once you're at the bottom of the village, make sure to go rock-pooling and fossil hunting.

The Bay is famous for its fossil finds; and you'll discover Hermit Crabs, interesting sea-shells and pebbles; and all manner of flotsam along the shoreline and in the many tidal pools.

Another great attraction is to get aquainted with some 'Bay history with a visit to the Old Coastguard Station.

It's easy to find by the side of the ramp on the edge of the sea at the very bottom of the village.

The Old Coastguard Station is now a dedicated visitor centre with exhibitions and information on the local wildlife, geology, smuggling, fishing, and sea-faring.

And lastly, make sure to enjoy some lunch at one of the local cafe's or a pint or two at a historic Inn.

The Laurel Inn and the Bay Hotel are our own favourites.
