American Werewolf in London

The North York Moors is home to some of the most out-of-the-way public houses in England.

This little tour takes you to any of a choice of six Moorland Inns within a half-hour drive of Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale Abbey.

From the village green in Rosedale head-off Southwards on the Pry Hills Road.

About two miles down the Dale, you'll come to the Blacksmiths Arms in the hamlet of Hartoft. Very good food in a nice restaurant. Make sure to take a look at the cast iron cooking range!

Continue South for another couple of Miles before turning right and follow the signposts to the village of Appleton-le-Moors.

Here you'll find the Moors Inn. By my reckoning, they serve the best Sunday Lunch round these parts. So make a booking!

Retrace your steps up the village High Street and follow the signposts to Lastingham.

Holidaymakers Love our Remote Moorland Inns.

This special Moorland village is home to another Blacksmiths Inn. Very highly regarded for its food. The open fire will to be burning brightly; and make sure to take a look at the collection of Gamekeepers hats.

Leave the village and head towards Hutton-le-Hole.

Take the Blakey Road and start the climb up onto the moorland plateau.

Turn left and drop down into Farndale and head for the hamlet of Church Houses.

Here you'll discover one of the most isolated little places in North Yorkshire.

It's Hard to Beat a Pint Sitting by a Fire in a Cosy Moorland Inn.

And it is home to the Feversham Arms - a family favourite for over 50-years!

Head-up Farndale Bank (very steep) and turn left at the top where it rejoins the Blakey Road.

Only a mile further on, you'll arrive at the most isolated pub in Yorkshire.

The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge is a genuine institution; and it is also one of the highest pubs in Britain.

You'll discover an ancient sprawling Inn comprising multiple low-ceilinged rooms with roaring open fires.

It's a must visit; and the genuine inspiration for the movie "American Werewolf in London".

Popular with locals, hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers, you'll love it!

When you leave, turn left out of the carpark and continue along Blakey Ridge.

After a couple of miles of driving, take the turning on the right (Knott Road) to drop back down into the village of Rosedale Abbey.

You can take a nightcap in any of our three village pubs; all within a short stroll of Rosella Cottage.
