6 Rosedale Abbey

Rosedale Abbey is a lovely village in a wild part of the North York Moors National Park; and with a real sense of remoteness from the cares of the World.
So it's an ideal base for anyone wanting to get away and relax for a weekend break in May.
Although we're remote, however, it is also incredibly easy to get around the Moors and take in all that the region has to offer.

So being in an out-of-the-way place doesn't mean it is boring! Far from it.
Listed today, I'm highlighting 5 activities that are a perfect fit for a weekend away on the North York Moors this May.
And each activity is included because it can be gotten to by car in 10-30 minutes from Rosedale Abbey.
Many folks love nosying about in a Stately Home.
And a day indoors is always a good idea if the weather is a little changeable.
For the best stately home experience in Yorkshire, visit Castle Howard of Brideshead revisited fame.
Or have a day out at Nunnington Hall, Scampston Hall or Duncombe Park.
All those stately homes are within easy reach of Rosedale Abbey.
You'll Find Castle Howard is just 25-minutes from Rosedale Abbey.
Rosedale Abbey was originally the location of a Priory, build in the 11th century.
But the Christian religion in these parts goes back to even earlier times.
To discover something about our Christian heritage, why not cycle to the village of Lastingham across the wild Spaunton Moor?
You can visit Aine (or Anna) Howe Cross - the tallest cross on the North York Moors and visit the ancient Church and its even older crypt - dating back to the 6th Century AD.
Then have lunch and a couple of ales in the cosy Blacksmiths Arms in the centre of the village.
You Can Walk to Anna Howe Cross From Rosella Cottage in about 40-minutes.
Pay a visit to the North York Moors visitor centre in Danby.
It's just 15-minutes away by car - and a lovely drive across high Hamer Moor and down into Fryupdale - great name eh?
You'll discover moorland education and history, an art gallery, an adventure playground for the children, woodland walks, a bird hide, and a tea room for everyone.
Pop over to Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole.
It's just 4-miles from Rosedale Abbey.
You'll discover an extensive collection of historic North York Moors buildings - salvaged and re-built for posterity at the Museum - and the remains of Rosedale’s first industry, the Huguenot glassmakers.
On the way home you can even visit the original glass making site on the moorside near the Blacksmiths Arms at Hartoft.
Catch the May gig of Maia at the Bandroom in Farndale on Saturday 17th May.
The Bandroom Offers a Unique North York Moors Experience; and it's BYO.
The Bandroom has been described as "the greatest small venue on Earth" and "the shed that rocks".
Built as a practice room for the Farndale Silver Band in the 1920s, the bandroom is like no other venue you'll ever visit - in a good way!
Get tickets for Maia by telephoning 01751 432900.
And if you can't be bothered with running-around visiting all the sites and scenes that the North York Moors have to offer; why not just kick back in the luxury on offer at Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey?
You can visit either of the two village cafes for breakfast or lunch.
And you can even have a mini pub-crawl around our three historic village Inns on a weekend evening.
You'll discover the Milburn Arms Hotel, the White Horse Farm Inn, and the Coach House are all just a short stroll from our front door.
And each pub offers excellent food; and with lovely traditional bars, lounges, and beer gardens.
