Guests staying at Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey will often plan a day trip to Whitby as part of their vacation break.
And with Whitby being just a 30-minute drive across the beautiful North York Moors and down the Esk Valley, the journey is all part of the holiday experience.
Another part of the unique holiday experience of any visit to Whitby should be lunch or dinner at one of Britain's finest seafood eateries - by which I mean Green’s Restaurant and Bistro of course!
Green's is an award winning eatery in an enviable and picturesque setting close to the lovely old swing bridge in Whitby.
In fact, you'll find it on Bridge Street by the River Esk.

Our Own Family Alway's Enjoy a Day Out to Whitby.
Rob and Emma Green have created a winning combination by offering two distinct dining experiences.
Firstly, they have a vibrant Bistro downstairs on the ground floor.
From the Bistro, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the chefs in Green's semi-open kitchen, preparing food and enjoying the atmosphere of a busy working kitchen.
But they also offer the more formal - but equally welcoming - 'Upstairs at Green's'.
As National Seafood Chef of the Year, Rob Green has developed his menu to be representative of all that is best about the bounty from the local waters around Whitby.
And with daily deliveries from the best local seafood suppliers and skippers of the local trawlers, you can be sure that Green's menu boasts the best ‘Catch of the day.'
Prime local meats, game and vegatables from the North York Moors are also a speciality for those not so keen on seafood.
Rob changes the menu frequently to offer a dining experience that's new every time we visit.
The specialty seafood menu is Green's "Jewel in the Crown" and offers seafood lover's the opportunity to taste a series of Whitby seafood specialities in a degustation-style menu.
Each dish can be served with a specially selected wine that compliments the food.
You can order four, five or six courses with or without wine recommendations.
Twenty-four hours notice is usually required to book the seafood tasting menu and it is a requirement that all your guests at the table take the menu.
If you book a few days in advance for the menu, Green's will even discuss creating your very own bespoke menu!
How good is that?
To whet your appetite, below are some examples of what can be offered under the degustation tasting-menu:
• Salt and Pepper Whitby Squid with lime and chilli mayonnaise and served with Chablis;
• Crispy whitebait with lemon and curried mayonnaise Saint Clair and served with Sauvignon Blanc;
• Queen Scallops served in the shell with pesto, parmesan and matured Sleights ham; and served with Gavi di Davi;
• Fillet of Whitby turbot with salsa verdi, tempura of pea puree, minted new potatoes and baby herb salad Centare;
• Moules Marineres cooked in white wine, garlic and cream Saint Clair and served with Sauvignon Blanc;
• Fillet of Thai spiced Whitby mackerel, satay seafood skewer, sweet chilli sauce, oriental coleslaw Groot Constantia, again with Sauvignon Blanc;
• Thai Seafood Ragout of tiger prawns, mussels, salmon and queen scallops with red thai curry, coconut milk and lime leaves with a nice Saint Clair Riesling; or
• Fillet of Whitby brill with a potato, pea and lobster chowder, crispy queens and a toasted seaweed bread crouton with Chablis.
Four courses are around £30.00 per person; five courses are £37.00 per person; and six courses are £44.00 per person
Greens is open Monday to Friday for lunch from noon to 2pm and dinner from 6.30pm - 9.30pm. Saturday and Sunday, they're open from noon til 10pm
You'll find Green's at Number 13 Bridge Street, North Yorkshire.
The postcode for your GPS navigator is YO22 4BG.
