Four Pub Walk  in Rosedale

I've set myself the task of reviewing 28-pubs in 28-days this February - and all on the North York Moors.

So for drinkers who enjoy a good walk; or walkers who enjoy a good drink; today I'm toasting four historic Inns in Rosedale.

Rosedale offers walkers the chance to get some exercise and, at the same time, take in a hearty 8-mile pub-crawl around the four pubs in the Dale.

So a walk for exercise in Rosedale on the North York Moors makes an ideal way to keep fit, catch some stunning scenary; and enjoy some local hospitality in our four historic Inns at the same time.

And Rosedale Abbey is the first village in Yorkshire to recieve official "Walkers are Welcome" status.

The circuit walk I'll describe today sets out from the the Milburn Arms Hotel (postcode = YO18 8RA) in the centre of the pretty hamlet of Rosedale Abbey.

It takes you via the Blacksmiths Arms at Hartoft; the White Horse Farm Inn on Chimney Bank; and back to the Coach House Inn in Rosedale Abbey.

Milburn Arms

Following a Seven-year Closure, the Milburn Arms will Re-open at Easter 2014.

And Rosella Cottage makes an ideal base for walkers returning to Rosedale Abbey after exploring this walk; or any of the hundreds of walks available from Rosedale Abbey.

The Rosedale Pub Crawl Walk

From Easter 2014, you'll be once again able to start your day off in Rosedale Abbey with a visit to the Milburn Arms for some fortification - as the historic hotel will open it's doors after a 7-year hiatus.

After your visit to the Milburn Arms, turn left out of the bar and walk uphill on Heygate Bank away from the village.

Towards the top of the bank you'll pass the TV mast on the left and cross-over the cattle grid.

A little further on you'll come to the Rosedale Millenium Cross on the right side of the road.

Millenium Cross Rosedale

There are Super Views Across Rosedale from teh Top of Heygate Bank.

The cross was erected in 2000AD by the residents of Rosedale.

You can take a breather here and look back across Rosedale for super views across the valley and the North York Moors beyond.

Just after the cross, take the footpath on the right that heads-across the Moor towards Russell's Wood.

The path meets Hancow Road and you keep straight on along the road with the wood on your left.

Hancow Road is a metalled road but is very infrequently used so there is little traffic to spoil your walk.

The road passes between field, moorland and forest on either side and with good views to right and left as you walk.

In summer, you will often find some lovely Orchids along the verge so keep an eye open if you're walking in June or July.

You'll Discover Beautiful Wild Orchids in Bloom Each Summer in Rosedale.

After a couple of miles, Hancow Road comes to a T-junction with Rigg End Farm Road.

Turn right and walk downhill towards Hartoft.

Where the road reaches Pry Hills Lane, you'll see the Blacksmiths Arms on your left at the Junction.

Enjoy some refreshments at the Blacksmiths before setting-off on the next stage of the walk.

Look for the bright red post box in the pub car park.

The Blacksmiths at Hartoft Offers Excellent Bar Food.

Cross Pry Hills Lane here and pass through the gate on the opposite side of the road. There is a green sign indicating "Public Footpath".

This path runs diaganally across the field and passes through the corner of a small wood before it brings you downhill to the River Seven close to Scugdale.

Cross the river on the footbridge.

Follow the path uphill on the otherside to join the Daleside path on the opposite bank of the River Seven.

Turn right on Daleside path and enjoy the walk through the Moorland on the valley side.

The fields will be below you on your right-hand side with Moor to your left.

When the path reaches Hollins Farm, the path turns into a wider track.

From here onwards, it's a nice walk with more good views over Rosedale and Northdale.

You'll pass-by a couple of farms before arriving at the White Horse Farm Inn after a couple of miles of walking.

The White Horse was voted Yorkshire's favourite pub in 2012 and is well worth stopping-off for a pint or lunch or dinner.

The White Horse's Beer Garden Offers Walkers Splendid Views Over Rosedale.

When you leave the Inn, turn right and you'll immediately come to a crossroads on Chimney Bank.

Turn right onto Gill Lane and head-off steeply downhill.

Cross the stone traffic bridge at the bottom of the hill and you'll arrive on Alder Carr Lane.

Turn right here and about 100 yards round the corner you'll find our fourth Inn - the Coach House.

The beer garden is a fine place to rest your feet after this 7-8 mile walk.

And Rosella Cottage is righ here in the village just a 2-minute walk away from teh Coach House.
