If you're looking for a good spot for fishing during your holiday break in Rosedale Abbey, you could do worse than to look past Welham Lake near Malton.

Welham Lake is anaturally formed spring-fed lake and it's located only about 30-minutes by car from Rosella Cottage here in Rosedale.

Welham covers about four-and-a-half acres; and there is a small island in the centre.

The bottom is silt with depths ranging up to about to 6 feet.

The lake is good fishing from Spring and well into late Autumn; with the fish showing themselves frequently.

You'll have no problems locating them!

And you'll find quality Carp and Tench; with a few big Eels too for good measure.

The Carp are mainly hard fighting Common Carp presently up to 23lb with the average fish being in the mid-teens.

There are also a small number of Mirror and Ghost Carp.

The Tench are from two pound to a healthy eight pound

So, whether you're a novice or an experienced angler, Welham Lake has something to offer all visitors.

You'll find the lake is in a secluded and secure environment, with the owner and bailiff always on hand to offer help and advice.

Since Welham only accommodates 14 anglers at any time, we'd suggest booking well in advance.  It is a popular North Yorkshire angling venue!
