6 Rosedale Abbey
Pickering, Y018 8RA
North Yorkshire, UK
There is simply so much to do on any holiday to Rosedale Abbey that listing all the near-by tourist attractions is close-to impossible.
But to get you started with your holiday planning, here is my personal favourite "top 10" attractions within 20-miles of Rosella Cottage.
1. Rievaux Abbey.
It offers a morning or afternoon of peace and beauty away from the cares of the World.
The Ruins of Rievaulx Abbey are a Splendid Attraction.
2. The traditional market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, Helmsley, and Malton.
Each is unique; but they all offer shopping, museums, galleries, and fine dining.
3. Castle Howard.
Long famous; but given an added promotion when the house and grounds of this Stately home were used as the fictional Brideshead in Evalyn Waughs' "Brideshead Revisited".
4. Whitby.
Famous for its scenic Abbey, links to Captain Cook, the Dracula novel by Bram Stoker, and its wonderful fish 'n' chips.
Tate Hill Sands with Magnificent Whitby Abbey in the Background.
5. Staithes, Runswick Bay, and Robin Hoods Bay.
Historic fishing villages tucked under the cliffs along the Yorkshire Heritage Coast.
6. Ryedale Folk Museaum.
One of Yorkshire's premier museums; it is really an outdoor village within a village; and it highlights Moorland life over the previous 5,000 years.
7. Standing Stones and Moorland Crosses.
All the mystery of the Moors to ponder. Try "Fat Betty", Ralph's Cross, Blue Man in t' Moss, and Lilla Cross.
A Visit to Lilla Cross Offers Fantastic Views Across the Moors.
8. Rosedale Abbey.
If you're already here, why bother going out in the car? We have four pubs, three cafes, a beautiful village green, fantastic walks and bike rides, and simply super scenery.
9. The North York Moors Railway.
Built by George Stephenson and opened in 1836, this legendary railway line from Pickering to Grosmont (and onwards to Whitby) is Yorkshire's premier steam railway line.
10. Historic Little Villages.
There are dozens of historic villages with interesting churches, pretty village greens, and historic Country Inns to call in for lunch or dinner.
Try a visit to Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham or Farndale on our side of the Moors; or visit Castleton, Danby, Lealholm, Egton, Glaisdale on a scenic run down the Esk Valley.
