July on the North York Moors

We're so enjoying our early-July holiday here in Rosedale Abbey on the North Yorkshire Moors.

One of the things we like about visiting the high Moors in June and July is that, before the schools have broken up, it seems like we have the whole Moors almost to ourselves.

To have the North York Moors to Ourselves is Wonderful.

It's sad to see really - a feature of the UK economy - but there so few people knocking about on the Moors at this time of year.

But the lack of visitors to the National Park means that people - like us - who are lucky enough to be here at this magnificent time of year are the lucky few.

As an example, we drove from Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey to Egton Bridge - a distance of 15-miles - and we didn't see another soul. Not a car, not a cyclist, and not even any walkers.

On the way home after lunch at the Postgate pub in Egton, we passed one person on a motor bike.

It really is an amazing feeling to have the beautiful North York Moors to ourselves; and more so since the weather this week is so perfect.
