Rosedale is an iconic holidy destination for walkers and cyclists; and for active couples and families looking for fresh air and lovely scenery amongst the changing beauty of the seasons on the North York Moors.
Visiting the Dale in any season makes for a host of unique happy memories.
At this time of year, Spring brings forth a wonderful show of wild flowers, including snow drops, crocus', bluebells and daffodils.
Daffodils Bloom in Rosedale from March to May.
The daffs in Rosedale and near-by Farndale are a particular attraction each Spring; with more than 50,000 visitors making the annual pilgimage to see them between March and April.
Summertime starts in June and holidaymaker's will see the dormant fields transformed into a patchwork-quilt of many colours.
As the valley-floor footpaths dry out; walkers will see yellow rape, golden corn, bright green fodder, dark green woodland and conifer stands, browner bracken, and everywhere above on the Moorland is our unique and distinctive purple heather.
Summertime is Fantastic on the North Yrok Moors.
August is the best time to see the ripening Moorland heather.
Then autumn follows at its usual pace in September.
But if we're lucky, September can offer holidaymakers an "Indian Summer" with the warmer weather hanging around for several weeks.
Rosedale is a Popular Cycling Destination for MTBs and Road Riders.
Walkers and cyclists visiting in September to November will catch the russet colours of the deciduous trees as the leaves change colour and the bracken darkens; in a nice contrast to the evergreen forests at Cropton in the lower valley.
Winter typically arrives in December and it can be very harsh upon the high Moors that suround Rosedale.
But the Winter can bring its own distinctive beauty to our high Moors.
Drifting snow on Blakey Ridge above Rosedale has been known to isolate the surrounding villages for several weeks at a time.
The Lion Inn on Blakey has pictures showing it in spendid isolation for over 100 days!
The Lion Inn in Winter is a Snowy Wonderland.
But in fair weather, walking and cycling in Rosedale is a pleasure whatever the season.
Not only is there the natural beauty of the Dale, but also the fascinating monumental remains of the Victorian-era iron-ore bonanza.
Highlights I'd recommend to try in your visit include:
+ The nine-mile hike or ride along the abandoned Rosedale Mineral Railway;
+ Ride your bike up Chimney Bank - the steepest road in England - "the Chain Breaker";
+ The four-hour circuit-walk across Spaunton Moor to the Blacksmiths Arms in Lastingham via Aine Howe Cross - the tallest medieaval cross on the North York Moors; and
+ A visit to the Gilles Jones Glass Workshop and Studio in the heart of Rosedale Abbey. It's absolutely fascinating and offers beautiful glass works of art.
+ And don't forget to take in the local hospitality in any of our local Inns and cafes.
You'll discover the Coach House Inn, the Milburn Arms Hotel, the White Horse Farm Inn, Graze on the Green, and the Abbey Tearooms right here in the village.
