Rosedale Abbey has official 'Walkers are Welcome' status; so the village does a lot to promote walking as an active holiday pastime on the North York Moors.
We even host our own walking festival each June.
But if you can't wait 'til June 2015 for your next walk on the North York Moors; today I'm listing some great guided walks offered by the North York Moors National Park Authority in August 2014.
And they're all free - but - booking is essentail (see below for details).
All four of the following walks can be easily reached from Rosedale Abbey; making the village an ideal base for any walking holiday or weekend this summer.
Appleton is a neighbouring village and only five-miles from Rosedale Abbey.
There are actually two walks around Appleton; both scheduled for Sunday 3rd August.
The first walk starts-off at 1045am and offers a morning stroll around this pleasent 12th Century planned village.
Visit the Moors Inn for Lunch.
Led by Jim Hall, the walk provides visitors with information about the development of this Medievil village and includes a short visit to the History Archive Group.
Finishing around noon, you can choose to take lunch in Appleton - we suggest the excellent "Moors Inn"; or else stay on for the second walk in the afternoon.
The afternoon walk starts at 2pm and wanders through the lovely countryside that surrounds Appleton-le-Moors.
Also taking place on Sunday 3rd August; this walk - led by Mike Nicholson - covers 4-miles along a wheel-chair accessible path above Rouston Scar to the famous White Horse above Kilburn.
The walk includes a stop at what James Herriot - the famous Yorkshire vet - considered to be his favouite view overlooking the Vale of Mowbray.
The walks starts at 10am and finished at noon from the Sutton Bank National Park Visitor Centre.
This "Coast and Country" walk takes in a challenging 5-mile section of the Cleveland Way at Hayburn Wyke and Staintondale.
Led by Mike Winterflood, the walk is a "mid-week special" taking place on Wednesday 6th Augus.
Start time is 1pm and the walk finishes at 4pm; from Staintondale Village Hall.
The North York Moors Offer the Most Spectacular Scenary in Britain.
All the walks are free but booking is essential.
Telephone 01439 772738 to reserve your place and get further information.
Although it is summer; you'll still need to bring suitable clothing and stout footwear.
Dogs are permitted on lead; and children are also welcome but only under adult supervision.
