Church's to Visit this Christmas

York Minster

The largest Gothic church in Britain and the spiritual heart of Yorkshire.

I'm not keen on recently introduced entry fee; but I have to admit the price is worth the charge.

And you can visit for free if you're attending a service.  But please give a healthy donation!

York Minster is the Finest Building in the Whole of Yorkshire.

Pickering

You'll find the Church at the top end of the market square.

There are historically important medieval wall paintings which illustrate what all pre-reformation Church's would have looked like.

There is also a Quaker Meeting Houses in Pickering which is also worth visiting.

Lastingham

It is one of my favourite walks across the Moor from Rosedale Abbey to Lastingham to pay a visit to the beautiful church in Lastingham.

Constructed above a very atmospheric Normal crypt, the Church stands on a site founded by St Cedd as he brought Christianity to the pagan ancient Britains.

It is thought to also have been the site of an even earlier Roman temple of some kind.

The Walk to Lastingham Church Should be a Highlight of any Stay in Rosedale.

Whitby

Perched on the cliff overlooking the harbour, you'll find the lovely Church of St Hilda.

The walk round Whitby Abbey and the views along the coast are fabulous.

Kirkdale Minster

This Church is in a quiet and remote spot in an out-of-the-way Dale.

You'll find it off the A170 between Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley.

It is a Saxon-era Church with fascinating Anglo-Saxon sundial over the porch.

It's amazing to dwell for a minute on all the history that has occurred in this 1,000 year old Church!

Rosedale Abbey

The Church of St Lawrence is directly behind Rosella Cottage and well worth a visit if you're holidaying in Rosedale this Christmas time.

You'll find standing remains of the original Rosedale Priory together with the villages' War Memorial.
