Whitby RNLI to the Rescue

A tourist was badly hurt this weekend in Whitby when she fell from quayside onto a pontoon and then into the River Esk in the upper harbour.

The injured woman was rescued from the water and Whitby's RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched to the scene where the crew helped stabilise the woman.

The lifeboat then took the lady to the lower harbour Tate Hill Beach so the Yorkshire Air Ambulance had room to land.

The patient was then transferred by air to James Cook Hospital in Midddlesbrough.

The whole incident just goes to show how even the most mundane day out can turn to tragedy when people are holidaying on the Coast.

Thank goodness for the Whitby RNLI and our superb volunteer crews.
