Kids Fun in Rosedale

Here's a funny thing.  Our girls (aged 10 and 8) love climbing trees during their visits to Rosedale Abbey.

And now it seems that the National Trust and every newspaper in the land has suddenly discovered what our girls have known for ages - climbing trees is fun.

Our girls also love swinging from trees - especially if there is a water "hazard" involved.

Little Monkey's in the Trees.

And that's why they so love their visits to Rosella Cottage in Rosedale where there are plenty of trees to climb and rope swings dangling invitingly over the River Seven.

But, according to newspaper stories this week, it seems like the age-old passtime of kids climbing trees is in peril.

Whether it's health and safety, or too much time spent looking at i-pads, I'm not sure.

But allowing our girls to have fun climbing and swinging from trees teaches them to take personal responsibility for their own welfare; a sense of purpose; and a great sense of achievement.

That's the freedom that a weekend or weeks' holiday in Rosedale allows our family.

And that freedom is priceless.
