Days out on the North York Moors

Some things to do on your stay in Rosedale Abbey.

For fine days

1. Drive over the Moors and down into Whitby and spend a day walking through this lovely and historic town.  Try Haddley's for the best fish 'n' chips (jumbo Haddock is amazing).  They're just over the bridge as Church St starts to curve round the corner.

2. A walk on the 9-mile Rosedale mineral railway;

3. A visit to Rievaulx Abbey - majestic ruins in a most beautiful "hidden valley" setting;

4. Visit Farndale if the daffodils are in bloom; and

5. A wander around Helmsley - very nice local market town.

For  Rainy Days

1. Castle Howard - magnificent stately home where you can easily spend a few hours walking around the rooms;

2. NY Moors Railway - steam trains from Pickering to Grosmont; and

3. York is just over an hour away in the car.  Always lots of places to visit and see.

Dining Out

All three Inns in Rosedale - the Coach House Inn, Blacksmiths Country Inn, and White Horse Farm Inn - serve good food.

For a special treat, try the Star Inn at Harome.

Voted as #5 best Gastropub in the whole UK and Michelin starred as well.
