River Fishing in North Yorkshire

There are three rivers that run off the North York Moors that offer keen Anglers the chance to get out and catch some supper.

River Esk

The River Esk is Yorkshire's principal salmon and sea trout river

The sea at Whitby where the Esk reaches the ocean supports the third largest commercial salmon net fishery in the country.

You can fish at several places along the length of the Esk; including:

• Danby - fishing available into October with good trout catches. Fishing is permitted by fly or spinner. Day tickets are available from from The Duke of Wellington Inn (T: 01287 660351). For season tickets contact Danby angling secretary Roger Payn (T: 01287 660607).

• Egton Bridge - Salmon and sea trout fishing into October. Tickets from Egton Estate Office at Egton Bridge (T: 01947 895466).

• Ruswarp - Brown trout and salmon. Trout fishing until end of September. Permit from Mr Sims (T: 01947 604658) or Ruswarp Pleasure Boats.

River Derwent

• Huttons Ambo, Nr Malton. Contact Paul Thompson, Huttons Ambo AC (01653 618602). Day tickets from the Post Office, Huttons Ambo.

River Rye

• Brawby - Game. Day permits from Mr King, Manor Farm, Brawby (T: 01653 668458).

• Costa Beck, Kirby Misperton YO17 6UE. Fishing for trout, dace, greyling, chubb and pike. Tickets available from Fox and Rabbit Farm, Lockton YO18 7NQ (T: 01751 460207).
