What Makes a Good Pub?

There are many suggestions about what makes a good pub.  Here is my own top ten!

1  In a quiet village location with a view over the local Countryside; and good walking or cycling country.

2  Regulars with a smattering of visitors, young folks, and people of different social classes.

Coach House Bar

The Coach House is Very Popular with Holidaymakers.

3  A solid, comfortable decor with a big roaring fire on colder days.

4.  Good food served at lunch time; or a nice menu for an evening meal.

5  At least two - and possible three different drinking areas; an open bar, lounge, and small "snug".

6  No TV screens, sport, or overly loud music. It should always be quiet enough to converse.

7  The bar staff get to know your name; and what you drink.

Great Views from the White Horse Beer Garden.

8  The bar staff know how to serve people in turn; even though the bar is the only place in Britain where we don't form an orderly line!

9  A good choice of cask-conditioned real-ale; and well looked after by the landlord or lady.

10  A nice beer garden for warmer weather.

Rosedale Abbey has three great pubs - the Milburn Arms, Coach House and White Horse.

The White Horse was even crowned "Yorkshire's Favourite Pub" in 2012 in recognition of just how good it is!
