Bird hunting with shotguns is a popular passtime for many visitors to the North York Moors.
The Red Grouse is Highly-prized on the North York Moors.
But remember, the majority of land in the National Park where shooting is permissible is under private ownership.
And shooting of any kind may not take place without permission of the local landowner.
Commercial shooting on the North York Moors involves grouse and pheasant shooting; with smaller volumes of partridge and duck shooting also available.
The commercial shooting of Grouse is the driving force behind the management of the vast expanse of heather moorland on the North York Moors.
Without the Grouse shoots, we would not be able to maintain the internationally important conservation status of the Moors.
Shooting dates are as follows:
12 August - 10 December
1 September - 1 February
1 October - 1 February
1 September - 31 January
Except for those species officially licensed or classed as vermin, it is illegal to shoot any other types of bird on the North York Moors.
