I'm undertaking the 109-miles of the Cleveland Way National Trail over coming days this April (2017); and as seems to be the way with my walks - I'm doing it in "reverse" order from the usual direction.
That's because I'm basing myself at Spyglass 1708 in Whitby which allows me to complete six of my planned seven days walking using Public Transport to get to & from the trailhead each day.
The Cleveland Way Takes in Some of the Finest Scenery in Northern England.
I'm also planning on raising some more funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI); so if you read the upcoming posts and enjoy what you read; please feel free to make a donation wherever you see a collection tin!
My walk will begin at the RNLI Station in Filey at the Southern end of the Cleveland Way; and I plan to walk northwards along the coast via Whitby and Saltburn to end in Helmsley on the edge of the North York Moors.
Day One will involve catching a bus and train to allow me to hike the 12-miles from Filey back to Scarborough and around the South and North Bays to end at Burniston; followed by a bus ride home to Whitby.
Day Two involves another bus ride back to Burniston to restart the hike; and the 22 miles via Robin Hoods Bay back home to Whitby.
Spyglass 1708 in Whitby Makes Public Transport Easy to Use Along the Walk.
Day Three is the 12-miles from Whitby to Staithes and then a bus ride home to Whitby.
Day Four is my final Coastal section of the Cleveland Way which takes me back to Staithes for the next 12-miles to Saltburn-by-the-Sea; and another short bus ride home to Whitby.
Day Five is a bit of a longer hike; again starting out at Saltburn and entering the North York Moors to end at the train station at Kildale on the Esk Valley line; with the short train trip back to Whitby.
Day Six will take me from Kildale across the best of the Moors to end at Osmotherley where I plan to stay in a B+B for one night.
Day Seven will be my final day (and the longest) with the walk from Osmotherley to finish at Helmsley; before the trip back to Whitby for a celebratory drink!
Wish me luck!
