The Marine Piano Bar, Whitby

Whitby is a nice town; with an interesting history; famous Abbey; strong links to Captain Cook and exploration; and the setting for Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.

But the town does attract a lot of low-end tourist day-trippers.

So it is always nice discover a few places aimed more at the affluent active adult "lux" tourism sector; places aimed at people who appreciate a little more than fish 'n' chips and an ice cream on the Pier.

Not that I'm knocking folks who enjoy that side of things in Whitby.

One such place that offers a little more of a "sophisticated" night out in Whitby is The Marine; on the West side of the River Esk alongside the fish quays.

The Marine is a a cafe, come cocktail bar, come oyster bar, come Piano bar.

It is quite intimate; and works really well as a weekend piano bar hosting Johnny Murphy or Chris Parkinson on piano.

The Marine is also recommended for lunch, with all main courses - including seafood - offered for less than £10.

That's hard to beat!

So give the Marine a try the next time you're visiting Whitby; I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
