Famous Yorkshire Foods

Yorkshire is famous for many of its quirky and main-stream food items.

So any holiday visit to Yorkshire is not complete without sampling at least some of our regional favourites.

Here's a short list to get you started when next you're visiting Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Puddings

Who could go home without trying at least one Roast Dinner with our World-famous puddings?

At Rosella Cottage, we suggest our guests visit the Moors Inn in Appleton-le-Moors for the best traditional Sunday lunch on the North York Moors.

Moors inn Lunch

Not Much Can Beat a Sunday Lunch at the Moors Inn.

It's just 15-minutes away by car and a lovely scenic drive down winding country lanes to boot.

If you're keen, you can even cycle there and back.

Whitby Crab Salad

Most of our guests take a day trip to Whitby; which is just 30-minutes away across the scenic North York Moors.

And a fresh Whitby crab salad is hard to beat for lunch.

Wenslydale Cheese

Originating in 1150AD, the mild creamy flavour and crumbly texture of Wensleydale make it a firm favourite on many a Ploughman's lunch.

It's even favoured by Wallace and Grommit - and they're from Wigan in Lancashire!

Rhubarb

It is hard to beat the tart taste of Rhubarb in a crumble or hot pie.

It's best when mixed with a sweet fruit to give a contrasting flavour - Bramble and Rhubarb or Apple and Rhubard both work really well.

Fish and Chips

Apparently we British eat 250 Million serves of Fish and Chips every year - not a bad effort.

And although it is a nation-wide dish; we're paticularly blessed in having so many good "chippies" in close proximity to Rosedale Abbey.

Try Capleman's in Pickering, Scotts in Helmsley, or the Quayside in Whitby - winner of the National Fish and Chips title for 2014.

Fish n Chips

Proper Fish & Chips with Mushy Pea's and Yorkshire Tea.

Other Favourites

Try Rowntrees, Terry's or Thorntons chocolates - they're all from Yorkshire.

Give Yorkshire tea a try - to wake you up in the morning; or warm you up after a bracing walk on the Moors.

You'll find some in the tea caddy in Rosella Cottage.

And don't forget to give Tetleys, Sam Smiths, Theakston's, John Smiths and over 100 other local brews of beer a try at any of our locals in Rosedale.

We've got the White Horse Farm Inn, the Coach House Inn, the Milburn Arms Hotel, and the Blacksmith's at Hartoft.

That should keep you busy!

Lion Inn Blakey Ridge Bar

Local Traditional Inn's Serve Good Yorkshire Food, and Real Ales.
