Malton is a bustling market town located on the Southern edge of the North York Moors in North Yorkshire.
It has long been favoured by locals from the surrounding countryside; but it is now being discovered by visitors because it is a lovely day-trip destination in itself.
With the move towards "buy local", visitors and locals alike have come to love Malton for many reasons. Discover why below?
Malton's Church Lies at the Centre of Market Square.
Malton has three distinctive markets every month.
Firstly, there is a long-established weekly market held every Saturday in the traditional market place around the town Church.
You'll discover plants, clothing, cakes, and all manner of bric-a-brac.
The weekly market is is always a good place to catch a bargain.
And the calls from the fruit 'n' veg stalls ring around the town!
In addition to the weekly market, Malton also holds a Farmer’s Market on the first Saturday of each month.
The Farmers Market has local independent farmers and food producers selling honey, meat, cheese, jam, fresh cakes and even chickens!
Lastly, Malton now also holds a monthly Food Market.
The Monthly Food Market is held on the second Saturday of each month.
There are usually live cooking demos and celebrity appearances by guest Chef's.
And you'll find many stalls proudly selling their own Yorkshire produce.
The Food Market is all part of Malton's drive to become known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital.
The "We Love Malton" campaign aims to make the town the premier destination for visitors to Yorkshire who love thier food.
And who doesn't?
The week-long annual Malton Food Lovers Festival takes place each May.
The Festival hosts celebrity patrons, live cooking, interviews, book signings, a cookery school, beer festival, live music and family entertainment.
Malton has a great range of independent shops located around the market place and down the back-alley snickets.
Woodalls is my own favourite; being a one stop shop offering unique gifts for men.
My wife's favourite is "Smash" boutique; selling ladies clothes in the Market Place.
Famous Newsreader Selina Scott has a her own shop in Malton offering luxurious, handmade socks.
Hearth and Stove, Interiors at Nine to Eleven, or Bowley and Jackson offer home furnishings and decorations.
The Shambles is the place to do your antique shopping.
And youngster's, or the young at heart will enjoy Mennell’s old fashioned sweet store or The Sweetest Thing ice cream parlour, in the market place.
My favourite pub in town is the The New Malton for a well-earned pint and a superb lunch.
The New Malton is featured in the Michelin UK restaurant guide.
Enjoying a Pint in Malton.
The Talbot Hotel is another great place for dining.
Open to non residents and serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
For a great coffee, try Leoni’s in Wheelgate.
Leon's also serves lovely cakes, a nice lunch, and afternoon tea.
And for take-away cakes that are the best in North Yorkshire, try "The Patisserie" on Market Square.
