Beautiful Coastal Colours Were a Highlight Today.
Today I caught the early X93 bus from Whitby back to my end point from yesterday at Beniston; where I re-started my walk on the Cleveland Way at the Three Jolly Sailors Pub.
Using public transport to get too or from the trail each day is just such an easy option when you're based in Whitby; and I've really enoyed the scenery and using the free wi-fi on the local buses and trains!
It is just a short stroll from the pub to rejoin the trailhead of the Cleveland Way and begin the walk from Scarborough Northwards towards Whitby.
The Majestic View Towards Robin Hoods Bay.
It is an easy and generally gentle stroll passing through Cloughton, Hayburn Wyke and Ravenscar before arriving at Robin Hoods Bay.
I decided to again try the local delicacy - fish 'n' chips - from the fish shop that is just a stone's throw from the beach at RHB.
And my my, they were good; with the Haddock too big to fit inside the box!
Yorkshire Portions!
Following lunch, I set off up the steep hill out of RBH and decided to take the "cinder track" back to Whitby; since I wanted to walk over the Victorian-era railway Viaduct over the River Esk for the first time.
The whole walk from Beniston offers superb views towards the cliffs and out to sea; and the weather was nice and sunny for most of the day; making the views and sea colours look spectacular.
It was also lovely to be walking into Whitby which holds so many happy memories as the place I met my lovely wife Emma nearly 30-years ago; and we've shared so many happy holidays here over the years. And now introduced Whitby to our own children who also love the town!
I'd have to caution that this was a fairly long stage to undertake so early in the hike; but the generally flatish nature of the terrain was not too stressful on my aging body.
I still arrived back in Whitby feeling pretty sore, however, after six hours of walking.
But four pints of Camerons Strongarm with my Brother in the Little Angel soon had me fettled for the night!
