All those castles can easily be visited from Rosedale by car within 30-45 minutes.

The Norman stone castles at Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Scarborough are all magnificent examples of the castle-makers art and all are open to the public during the warmer months.

Pickering Castle is just 10 miles from Rosella Cottage.

Each of the local castles has its own unique history - build to control movement and trade, to display wealth and power, to subjegate the people of the North, or just to house the local Nobility - all the castles on and around the North York Moors have played a part in shaping the heritage of North Yorkshire.

And they're well worth a visit today!
