Farmers and agricultural workers from North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland can attend a free health and safety event addressing hazards in the farming industry.

The event has been organised by the UK Health and Safety Executive (UK HSE) and will take place on Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Chester-le-Street..

The HSE event will involve practical demonstrations at Pelaw Grange Stadium in Chester-le-Street, Country Durham, DH3 2AF.

The focus will be on farm transport, machinery safety, working at height, handling livestock, and safe lifting and hoisting.

It will provide farmers with information on the main hazards faced by workers in the agriculture sector.

The UK HSE is putting on the event because farm workers face one of the highest rates of death and serious injury of any industry in Great Britain.

Farmers are ten times more likely than most workers to be killed while at work.

Good OHS management is about controlling hazards that could lead to incidents that can cost time and money, even if no one is injured.

The UK HSE publicity says "The event offers simple tips that won't cost a lot to put into practice and will also give attendees an opportunity to catch up with other local farmers and share industry knowledge."
