Created in 1857 by John Hodgson, a local school master and his pupils, the Kilburn White Horse has been a Yorkshire Landmark on Sutton Bank for nigh-on 160 years.
The white horse is 320' long and 220' high and it is both the largest, and the most Northerly of all carved white horses in Britain.
You can see the White Horse at Kilburn from over 45 miles away across the Vale of York; and during World War II it was even ordered to be covered over so as not to provide an aerial landmark for German bombers on their raids over the North East.
If you take a ride-out to see the white horse at Kilburn, it is worth a side tour to the village of Kilburn itself where you will find the workshop, sales room and museum of the Yorkshire furniture artisan Robert Thompson - the famous "mouseman" of Yorkshire.
Keep an eye-open for the "mouse" of the famous Mouseman of Yorkshire.
The workshop is till producing fine English furniture in classic styles and all have the famous mouse-design carved somewhere. A joy for adults and children alike to find!
