Ralph's Cross on Blakey Ridge

An image of Ralph's Cross is the design symbol chosen to represent the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and it is far-and-away the most recognizable of all the moorland crosses standing sentinal on the high moors around here.

Located high-up on Blakey Ridge; and at the junction of the roads leading to Rosedale, Westerdale, Castleton and Hutton-le-Hole, Young Ralph (OS grid reference 675022/677022) has been a guide to travallers for several centuries.

Not far away, but off the road is "Old Ralph", another cross which can found at OS grid reference 675020/675019.

You can walk or cycle to visit both these moorland crosses; and pass the  "Fat Betty" standing stone and the Milenium Standing Stone on the way if you're staying in Rosedale.

The bike ride will take a couple of hours and the walk might be a whole day jaunt depending on your fitness level.

Alternatively, a car ride will take less than 30-minutes but it will reward you with some splendid views if the weather is clear up on top!
